Another scene at Dam 5 on the Potomac River. The tow path of the C&O Canal that the mules walked on to pull the barges is in the foreground with the remnants of an aqueduct between it and the river. The brick building on the Virginia side of the river is a small working hydroelectric plant. This is but one of many interesting sites along the canal that reminds us of what used to be. This portion of the Canal no longer carries water although many sections still do. It is located a near mile post 105 and just downstream from Locks 45 & 46.
This was taken while my wife and I were on Bike Patrol for the NPS. That is my wife in the background.
