I came upon this scene while hiking on the C & O Canal again today. This is right across the Canal from the scene with the deer in the image I posted yesterday. This little deer finally took off down the steep embankment to the right. When I got to that spot I saw the mother deer across the Canal where I had spotted her on Sunday. I guess the little fellow had crossed the Canal to get onto the tow path.

Deer are herd animals. When they are separated and there's a threat, their first reaction is to follow the leader in flight. A lot of deer are hit on the highway because of their natural reaction.

I love this image. I can't believe the deer let those people get so close. It makes for I nice photo for you, though.
