A sunset scene over Fishing Bay at the southern end of Elliott Island on Maryland's Eastern Shore. The phragmites (common reeds) that I used as a foreground element in this image are prolific in the marshes and on the shores of this island. Unfortunately, these probably are the non-native invasive variety of phragmites that choke out the less vigorous native species.
The adjacent Fishing Bay Wildlife Management Area is home to a number of bird species and animals. This is where we go to search for short-eared owls and northern harriers (marsh hawks) that hunt the marsh mice.

Are the phragmites the invasive species that is widely hated by environmentalists?

I like that mellow sky back of the invaders. They look deceptively harmless. Fine shot.
