My wife and I made our annual winter trip to Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge on Maryland's Eastern Shore and found these bald eagles. While I was setting up my tripod the eagle shown with the meal flew off and came back with the black bird show in this image. The other eagle seemed quite interested in what the feeding eagle was having for lunch. All the elements in this 'rearranged' creation came from a single image but the feeding eagle and the branch he is sitting on were relocated closer to the top eagle using Photoshop.I did this to achieve a more pleasing composition of these two eagles.
It was a very successful trip in that we spotted more than 10 bald eagles including these and a pair that were engaged in aerial acrobatics. We also observed a fox hunting for a meal among the geese and ducks on the refuge. During the hunt, it was confronted by about two dozen Canada geese that formed a tight pack that reminded me of musk oxen behavior. The poor fox had mange and had lost all of its tail hair and much of the hair on its hindquarters - not only did this fox look ragged but it also looked cold! I have read that wolves can perish due to hypothermia during the winter if they have mange mite infestations. I'm sure the same is true for foxes and coyotes that live in colder areas.
We drove on down to Elliott Island to see if we could spot any short-eared owls and were rewarded with sighting at least six of these fascinating birds of prey. They look like large moths as they cruise over the marsh grasses while hunting.
As the sun was setting, we departed this very interesting area leaving behind all the wonderful sights and sounds of these marshes. We both agreed that this trip had been a real 'keeper!'

Nice shot, Bud, and really nice ps work. I've only seen one Bald Eagle up close, in my life, and that was near Tupper Lake, in the Adirondacks. It was an impressive sight watching it soar above our heads.
