I was out shooting this incredibly detailed and colorful plant once again. This time the image I captured is more of a 'plantscape' presentation than just a portion of a leaf. It had just rained so there were still drops of water on the leaves adding even more texture to them. I did not use a polarizer for this shot like I normally would so while it has some glare present the patterns on this leaf are also accentuated.
I was trying for a back lit capture employing the same off camera strobe technique used for yesterday's image. My approach was to place a Nikon SB-800 strobe behind the leaf and point it back toward the camera. I triggered it with the built in flash on my Nikon D200 camera. The technique worked fine but the results were not very visually pleasing due to the large difference in thickness of the leaf from center to edge. While this lighting technique did not work for this plant, it is good to know that it does work. I'm sure I will use it in the future. Perhaps it will work on leaves this Fall!

Beautiful. I'm sticking by my claim that this looks like stained cells on a microscope slide.
