I have been reviewing images I have captured of the critters that inhabit Brookside Gardens in preparation for the upcoming Volunteers Art/Photo Show. I came across this one and it made me laugh. This was taken the year that four green herons fledged in the Gardens - a bumper crop not repeated since.
This chick is standing on a favorite sunning spots of the turtles and various birds in the 'Anderson' pond, one of two aquatic ponds near the Visitors Center in Brookside Gardens. It can get pretty crowded on this old log when all of them decide to 'sun bathe' at the same time!

It's hard to believe that gangly looking critter will grow into a beautiful, graceful bird. Great capture.
